“Habit Stacking”
HOW TO MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR EXERCISES
I hear it a lot. It can be hard to fit PT exercises into a busy life. This toddler reminded me of a technique that I want to share with you. it is called “habit stacking”.
The concept is simple, but very effective.
The idea is to link an activity you would like to add into your life (PT exercises) to an already existing habit or routine. The trick is to be extremely specific, however.
For example…saying I will get to my exercises “in the afternoon” is much less likely to actually occur than saying I will do my hip flexor stretch “right after I place my toothbrush back on the charger”. Or I will stretch my shoulder “before I take my first sip of coffee after I pour it”.
GET SPECIFIC AND GET STACKING!
