It turns out that we have all discovered the best kept secret in the world of movement… GYROTONIC exercise! It is the secret sauce in our common desire for achieving fluid yet powerful performance!
Granted I am not an elite athlete, but this secret has allowed me to perform on a salsa team with people twenty years my junior. The best part about this secret is that it is not just to excel at extreme competition golfing in The Masters or preparing for high level Super Bowl performances, it benefits everyone from all walks of life.
Developed by Romanian-born dancer Juliu Horvath it is a movement method that works the entire body using natural flowing circular and spiral movements to enhance flexibility, strength, balance and overall movement efficiency. The carefully orchestrated movements are synced with the breath with the added intention of opening up energy channels and stimulating the nervous system.

How does it do this?
Juliu Horvath developed specialized equipment that supports your body while you train your muscles and joints to actively decompress during your motions. There are multiple very different pieces which can provide feedback, support and/or resistance to your movements as you learn to consciously create space in the joints while fostering a connection to core and mastery over coordination and fluidity.

You sit on a bench and use these cool wheels with your arms (like you are stirring a pot in all different directions) but it stretches your shoulders and spine in ways you just can’t achieve on your own. Then you use the pulleys with straps on your wrists (see caption and above photo) to do shoulder movements that open up your neck, shoulders, and upper back in ways that help your posture beyond measure. Continuing to use those same straps, only attached to your ankles, you stretch your hips in ways you could never achieve without the pulleys holding up the weight of your legs. The number of specialized exercises that a GYROTONIC trainer such as myself can employ based on what we see in the person’s body are seemingly endless.
